Un mondo fantastico e alieno definiva lo stile ambientale di Outland: al passaggio del pubblico venivano generati avatar alieni, composti da elementi che richiamavano il fondale elementale. Stagioni diverse scandivano i momenti dell'installazione interattiva, ognuna con uno stile unico e personaggi generativi sempre diversi. Il tutto era composto da un layer real-time generato in Notch e dai fondali pre-renderizzati.
BREAKDOWN
A fantasy, alien world defined the environmental style of Outland. As the public passed by, alien avatars were generated, composed of elements that recalled the elemental background. Different Seasons defined the various moments of the interactive installation, all with a unique style and always different generative characters. The whole thing was composited by a real-time layer generated in Notch and the pre-rendered backgrounds.
Il tracking dei personaggi era interamente gestito da sensori di profondità che ricavavano lo scheletro in tempo reale, a cui si aggiungevano parametri variabili in base alla velocità dei movimenti e alla distanza.
The character tracking was entirely managed by depth sensors that obtained the skeleton in real-time, to which were added parameters that varied based on the speed of the movements and the distance.
Per ogni Stagione sono state progettate diverse varianti degli avatar, ognuna delle quali prendeva elementi e luci dal fondale con vari elementi interattivi. Sono stati usati tutti i sistemi possibili: dalla generazione di blob procedurali alle particelle per simulare onde di luce, dai cloni che emanavano petali alle deformazioni dei contenuti video che definivano i fondali.
Different variants of the Avatars were designed for each Season, each of which took elements and lights from the background with various interactive elements. All possible systems were used, from the generation of procedural blobs to particles to simulate waves of light, clones to emanate petals, and the deformations of the video content that defined the backgrounds.
Nella fase iniziale erano stati progettati anche alcuni elementi ambientali di sfondo che interagivano con il passaggio dell'avatar, poi scartati durante la composizione del progetto finale.
In the initial phase, some environmental background elements that interacted with the passage of the avatar were also designed, but these were discarded during the composition of the final project.
Una volta costruita, la sala immersiva presentava una lunga parete proiettata, alternata a sensori distribuiti lungo il muro, per creare un'area interattiva continua capace di coprire l'intero spazio.
Once built, the immersive room featured a long projected wall, alternating with some sensors scattered around the wall, to create a continuous interactive area capable of covering the entire space.
